Lucy Upton is a qualified Paediatric Dietitian, Feeding Therapist, author, and advocate for children’s nutrition. With more than 15 years of experience spanning NHS and private practice, Lucy has dedicated her career to helping children and their families navigate feeding challenges with empathy, evidence, and real-world strategies.
She started her career working in NHS settings - in community paediatrics, specialist children’s hospitals, GP clinics, and home care, where she saw firsthand how often parents feel unheard or overwhelmed by conflicting advice. Over time, she has combined that clinical strength with the flexibility of private practice via The Children’s Dietitian, allowing her to give families longer consults, deeper support, and more personalised care.
Lucy is passionate about bridging gaps between clinical expertise and lived parental experience. She blends her scientific training with a non-judgemental, compassionate approach - not to shame or fix, but to listen, guide, and co-create solutions.
She is also deeply involved in feeding therapy and clinical innovation:
- As Dietitian at The Feeding Trust, she helps lead services for children with more complex feeding challenges, ensuring nutrition is integral to therapeutic care.
- She serves as a media and public health advocate, appearing on the BBC, writing for parenting publications, and speaking on child nutrition issues to push for better support systems for families.
- Lucy is the author of The Ultimate Guide to Children’s Nutrition, a book for parents covering weaning, food refusal, allergy strategies, and how to build positive food relationships in the early years.
- She regularly contributes to professional training, lectures in universities, and offers expert commentary to brands and media in the child nutrition space.
As a mum herself, Lucy understands the emotional load that comes with feeding challenges, the guilt, worry, frustration, and fear of judgment. That insight shapes how she works: not just prescribing “what to do,” but walking alongside you, validating your experience, and giving tools you can adapt to your family’s life.
Lucy doesn’t just bring credentials. She brings heart, experience, and a commitment to shifting how we think about children, eating, and what it means to feel supported.
